The wackiest festival in America is back in Whiting, Indiana this weekend. The 2024 Pierogi Fest starts on Friday and runs from July 26 to July 28, celebrating Eastern European culture with food and fun.

Honoring Culture and Grandmothers

Pierogi Fest honors the role grandmothers play in many cultures. You’ll see Buscias (grandmothers) walking around in their stockings and housecoats. They’ll be joined by Mr. Perogi, the Pieroguettes, Miss Paczki, Halupki Guy, and Polkahontas.

For those who want to enjoy traditional potato-stuffed dumplings, there are plenty of options. But Pierogi Fest isn’t just about pierogies; it features over 50 food vendors offering a wide variety of dishes, including burritos, pizza, and crepes.

For those 21 and over, the Main Beer Garden and the Silver Streak Lounge offer a selection of canned and on-tap drinks.

Crafts and Artwork

In addition to food, there are 25 vendors showcasing local crafts and artwork, plus 13 specialty vendors with unique items.

Headliners

The rock band Sugar Ray will headline the festival, performing on the main stage at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Polka Music

Multiple traditional polka groups will perform throughout the festival, bringing the music and dances of Eastern Europe to Indiana.

History and Growth

Starting as a small festival in 1993 with just 1,200 attendees, Pierogi Fest now attracts millions of visitors each year. Former CBS News Chicago meteorologist Steve Baskerville has been a key figure in its growth and serves as the Grand Marshall of the Pierogi Fest Parade.
